How Far in Advance Should You Order a Custom Cake?

A simple timeline for ordering birthday, wedding and quinceañera cakes in Davenport and Central Florida — plus what to have ready before you place your order.

"How soon do I need to order?" is the question we hear most often. The honest answer is: it depends on the cake and the date. A simple birthday cake can come together in a couple of days, but a three-tier wedding cake in peak season needs real planning.

Here is the timeline we recommend for celebrations in Davenport and across Central Florida.

Quick answer: our recommended lead times

Type of cake Minimum notice Best to book
Classic flavor, simple design (tres leches, arequipe, chocolate) 48 hours 1 week
Custom birthday or themed kids' cake 48 hours 1–2 weeks
Baby shower, baptism, graduation 1 week 2–3 weeks
Quinceañera cake 2 weeks 4–6 weeks
Wedding cake 2–4 weeks 1–3 months
Spring and fall weddings, holiday weekends 4–6 weeks As early as possible

48 hours is our minimum for most cakes, because good cake cannot be rushed. A tres leches needs time to soak, and decorated cakes need time to set. Larger, multi-tier cakes need more notice, especially during busy seasons.

Why lead time matters

1. Your date might fill up. We bake every cake by hand, so we only take a certain number of orders per weekend. Graduation season (May–June), quinceañera season and the holidays fill quickly.

2. Design takes time. A custom design often involves a few messages back and forth: colors, themes, toppers, inspiration photos. Starting early means nobody has to rush those decisions.

3. Special ingredients and decorations. Fresh flowers, custom toppers and specific colors sometimes need to be ordered in advance.

4. Less stress for you. One less thing to worry about the week of your event.

What to have ready before you order

You will get a faster, more accurate answer if you know:

  • The date and time of your event, and whether you want pickup or delivery.
  • How many guests you need to serve. This decides the size.
  • Your flavor – see our Venezuelan-inspired flavors for ideas like tres leches, arequipe, marquesa de chocolate and guava with cheese.
  • Your theme or colors, plus any inspiration photos (screenshots are perfect).
  • Any allergies or dietary needs among your guests, so we can talk through options with you.
  • The delivery address, if you want delivery. For gated communities and vacation homes, include the gate details. Our vacation rental delivery guide explains what we need.

Can you make a last-minute cake?

Sometimes, yes. If your celebration is less than 48 hours away, send us a message anyway. If we have room in the schedule, we will tell you which flavors and designs we can do in that time. Simpler designs and our classic flavors are the easiest to fit in.
